HUD Home Repair and First Time Home Buyer Grants Information 2016

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) offers rental programs, benefits, and assistance to low-income families. Every year the federal agency disburses approximately $1 billion for the safe and secure living standards for families that are financially crunched. HUD Grants for Students
The Resident Opportunities and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) Program, administered by HUD, announced in August 2016 to offer $2 million for low-income earning families and the students to help apply for post-secondary and college education. HUD recognizes the value of higher education in the 21st century and the vast job opportunities and stability that higher education can offer hence it offers monetary support to hundreds of students of age 15-20 to apply for free FAFSA.
Also termed as Project SOAR, it is all set to assist disadvantaged students residing in HUD households to attain their educational goals and become self-sufficient through the federal financial aid.
For Employment
Almost $75 million grant amount was awarded by HUD to low income earning families availing the Housing Choice Voucher Program and those residing in public housing. The grant, given on July 16th, aims to improve and advance the lives of disadvantaged people by boosting further education for better job opportunities and self-sufficiency.

The HUD grant program was funded through the Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS). The public housing agencies and the community colleges, businessmen, social service agencies and other local groups work together to assist monetarily crunched residents of public housing to progress.
Grants for Veterans
Yet another grant program was funded by HUD to prevent Veteran homelessness. Over $5 million was granted to almost 42 public housing agencies in the country that function to eradicate Veteran homelessness. Funding is done to offer permanent housing facilities with the basic amenities for Veterans through administer joint program between the two agencies-U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and HUD.
Named as HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing Program (HUD-VASH), the program seeks to end homelessness through all essential services necessary for the execution of the work.
Grants for Improved Internet Services
A historic step has been taken by HUD to promote improved internet service for low-income families. HUD’s and Comcast’s ConnectHome plan took an initiative to end the digital divide and offer high-speed internet program to public housing and HUD residents through the Internet Essentials. People residing in Comcast service areas are now eligible to apply for internet services.
Applicants of Comcast pilot public housing and HUD homes like Multifamily programs, Public Housing, Housing Choice Voucher Program are given access to affordable internet services. The ConnectHome is an initiative from the government to offer low-cost broadband services to HUD-assisted homes. Connect Home offers the platform to provide technical training, broadband services, digital literacy and access to the high-speed net to students for better education.
